About AUDIT and AUDIT-C

The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test was developed by the World Health Organization to identify hazardous and harmful drinking and possible dependence. AUDIT has 10 questions scored 0 to 4. AUDIT-C uses the first 3 questions to quickly screen for risky drinking. Risk zones help decide next steps: advice, brief counseling, or referral.

What do the AUDIT risk zones mean?
WHO zones: 0 to 7 low risk, 8 to 15 moderate, 16 to 19 high, 20 to 40 possible dependence. Advice ranges from simple feedback to referral.
How is AUDIT-C interpreted?
