About TABC and scoring
TABC screens autistic features across four domains: Social Interaction, Communication, Behavioral Characteristics, and Sensory Integration. In published scoring, each item is rated 1 to 4 (Never, Sometimes, Often, Always). Total score ranges 20 to 80 for 20 items. Severity bands commonly used: 20–35 non-autistic, 36–43 mild to moderate, 44 and above severe. Studies from Indian clinical settings compare TABC against CARS and report adequate psychometric performance for community screening, noting setting-dependent sensitivity and specificity.
