What It Measures: The “Big Five”
This test measures the five broad domains of personality, often called the “Big Five” or “OCEAN” model:
- Openness to Experience: (Also called Intellect/Imagination) Describes your tendency to be imaginative, curious, and open to new ideas vs. conventional and cautious.
- Conscientiousness: Describes your tendency to be organized, dependable, and disciplined vs. easy-going and spontaneous.
- Extraversion: Describes your tendency to be outgoing, energetic, and sociable vs. solitary and reserved.
- Agreeableness: Describes your tendency to be compassionate, cooperative, and friendly vs. analytical and detached.
- Neuroticism: (The inverse is Emotional Stability) Describes your tendency to experience negative emotions like anxiety, worry, and sadness vs. being calm and emotionally stable.
Validity & Reliability
The International Personality Item Pool (IPIP) is a public-domain collection of personality items used by researchers. This 60-item version has been shown in studies to be a reliable and valid short-form measure of the Big Five, correlating highly with longer, proprietary tests.
