Who Is This For?
This game is an exercise for anyone who struggles with uncertainty, perfectionism, or “analysis paralysis.”
It’s designed to help you practice challenging the need for 100% certainty, which is a common driver for checking compulsions and procrastination.
The Science Behind It (Intolerance of Uncertainty)
This game is a simulation based on principles from CBT for OCD and anxiety. A core concept is Intolerance of Uncertainty (IU)—the belief that uncertainty is dangerous and must be eliminated.
This belief can lead to “checking” behaviors (re-reading, re-thinking, asking for reassurance). This game challenges IU by:
- Inducing Uncertainty: The tasks are ambiguous (what’s “essential”?).
- Adding Time Pressure: The timer prevents you from over-analyzing and “checking” your choices.
- Rewarding “Good Enough”: You get points for *making a decision*, not for making the *perfect* decision.
This helps you practice acting *despite* feeling uncertain, which builds your tolerance for uncertainty over time.
