Dream Rewrite

Dream Rewrite
Take control of your nightmares by changing the story.

🚀 How to Use This Tool

1️⃣ Click “Write a New Rewrite” to start.

2️⃣ Briefly describe the nightmare. You don’t need to include every detail.

3️⃣ Write a new ending. It can be positive, neutral, or even silly. The only rule is that it’s different.

🚀 Click “Read My Rewrites” to review and rehearse your new versions. This is the most important step!

Step 1: Briefly describe the nightmare in 1-2 sentences. (Just the key points, no need to relive it.)
Step 2: Now, change the story. Write a new ending.

💡 The Why & How

“Dream Rewrite” is a tool based on Imagery Rehearsal Therapy (IRT), a well-established cognitive-behavioral technique for treating recurrent nightmares.

Who Is This For?

This tool is for anyone who experiences recurrent, distressing nightmares. It helps you take an active role in changing your relationship with these dreams.

The Science Behind It

IRT works on a simple principle: dreams are not random noise; they are a product of your mind, and you can influence them.

  • Nightmares often become a habit. Your brain learns a “script” and runs it over and over.
  • By writing down a new, non-distressing ending and then mentally rehearsing it for a few minutes during the day, you are creating a new “script.”
  • Over time, this rehearsal weakens the old, scary script and gives your brain a new, preferred pathway to follow. When the nightmare starts, your brain is more likely to switch to the new, rewritten version.
