Theory: What is the Choice Point?
The “Choice Point” is a core concept from Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), popularized by Dr. Russ Harris. It’s a map that helps you see a difficult situation clearly.
In any moment, you are at a Choice Point. You can get “hooked” by difficult thoughts and feelings, which pull you into “Away Moves” (actions that make life worse). Or, you can unhook, connect with your “Values,” and make “Towards Moves” (actions that make life richer and more meaningful).
Who Is This For?
This tool is for anyone who feels “stuck” in a pattern or wants to:
- Understand their reactions to stress.
- Clarify what truly matters to them (their Values).
- Make more conscious, value-driven decisions.
- Stop letting difficult emotions control their actions.
Science & References
This tool is based on the ACT model, an evidence-based psychotherapy.
