DASS-21 FAQ

What is DASS-21?

A brief version of the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales. It has 21 items and three 7 item subscales that screen how you felt in the past week.

How is it scored?

Each subscale is the sum of 7 items. Multiply each subscale by 2 to compare with standard cutoffs. We display both the raw and the x2 score.

Do you calculate a total score?

DASS is designed around the three subscales. We highlight each domain rather than a single overall number.

Is DASS free to use?

Yes. The DASS questionnaires may be copied and used with proper credit. Items are reproduced verbatim here with attribution.

Do you store my answers?

No. Answers are kept in your browser only. The share link encodes your result in the URL hash on your device.

What should I do if one or more subscales are high?

Consider a review with a licensed clinician. Try the gentle tools below. If you feel unsafe, use the helpline panel or call local emergency services.
