Our Approach
PsychKit™ is a public‑benefit mission under Joyful Psych. We design evidence‑based, beautiful, and mobile‑first interactive tools, tests, and games for mental health — free for everyone.
We maintain one of the largest open libraries of browser‑based psychological tools and keep expanding it for the common good.
Mission
Evidence‑based mental health skills that are accessible, beautiful, and effective. We serve people in distress on mobile devices with a calm, clear, and non‑judgmental experience.
- ✓Design: minimal, whitespace, gentle motion, emerald/teal accents.
- ✓Privacy: no accounts or tracking; saved inputs stay on your device (localStorage).
- ✓Performance: mobile‑first and Lighthouse ≥95 (mobile) as a working standard.
What makes PsychKit different?
- Single‑file tools — fast, portable, resilient.
- Built with Tailwind + vanilla JS only.
- Autosave inputs (private, on‑device).
- Accessibility first (ARIA, contrast, focus states).
- Optional Chart.js/Tone.js via CDN when helpful.
- No horizontal scroll & stable layout (CLS≈0).
How we build & verify
- 1Evidence review (WHO/APA/NIMH etc.) and selection of validated tools where applicable.
- 2Human‑centered design for clarity under stress (mobile first, plain language, no dark patterns).
- 3Single‑file implementation with autosave & accessibility audited.
- 4Quality checks (self‑tests, console assertions, Lighthouse) and cross‑device trials.
- 5Plain‑language guidance, safety banner, and “Get Support” links added before publish.
We continually expand and refine the library — our north star is usefulness, dignity, and safety.
Performance & Accessibility Standards
- Tap targets ≥ 44×44; visible focus, logical tab order.
- Respect
prefers-reduced-motion; gentle reveals only. - No personal data collection; no third‑party trackers.
- Autosave keys prefixed
pkit_to keep data isolated. - Pre‑rendered HTML fallbacks; CDN only, no heavy bundles.
Clinical ethos
Our tools are for education and self‑help. They do not diagnose or replace professional care. We aim for compassion, clarity, and practical steps users can try immediately.
Safety & scope
Every page includes clear safety notes and a fast path to Get Support with helplines (Tele‑MANAS India 14416 and other countries) and emergency advice.
Open contribution
PsychKit operates for public welfare. We welcome suggestions, rigorous feedback, and ideas for new tools from clinicians, researchers, and the public.
Free‑Forever Pledge
We are committed to keeping PsychKit’s tools, tests, and games free to use, always. We fund the work through our own effort and the community’s optional, non‑charitable contributions that help with hosting, development, and maintenance.
